Dr. Muhammad Imran did PhD in Biotechnology from National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Faisalabad, Pakistan and Centro de Biotecnologia Agrícola, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His research domain is confined but not limited to Genetic Engineering/ Recombinant DNA Technology. During his research and academic journey, he has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of plant tissue culture and transgenesis and a keen interest in exploring innovative techniques to enhance crop productivity, insect resistance, and herbicide tolerance. His role has been pivotal in the development of 3G (triple gene) cotton in the country, which has tremendously change the fate of the growers in Pakistan. Transgenic cotton is fully resistant against chewing insects such as armyworm and American bollworm & broad-spectrum herbicide, glyphosate. Weed and insect management has been made straightforward and easy for the farmers, and in turn it has started to show remarkable impact on environment and workers' health. In addition to his contribution in research, he has worked in Monsanto Agritech which is a renowned agricultural biotechnology company in the World. His research experience at Monsanto Research Centre inspired him to instill interest in learning and harnessing gene editing technologies to improve the crop technology in the country. He is quite motivated to develop tissue culture laboratory facilities in potato growing areas of Punjab province. |
