Introduction/Description
The Associate Degree in Arts program is a regular 2-year degree program in which students have the option to study four major course(s) for each selected subject/domain. Courses from Psychology, Sociology, Economics, English, Mass Communication, Education, Statistics, Management Sciences, and Computer science are offered in this degree program. After successful completion of two-year Associate Degree student has an option to continue 4-Year BS Psychology, BS Mass Communication, BS Sociology BS Economics, BS Education, BS English, Statistics, Management Sciences, and Computer science by taking remaining credit hours in at least 4-semesters.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the Associate Degree in Arts program are:

To provide students a broad base and academic foundation of multidisciplinary programs

To give students comprehensive knowledge in Arts subjects that is fairly sufficient to expose to different disciplines

To provide skill based knowledge.

To reflect a general understanding of the concepts and principles of selected areas of the study thus providing students an opportunity to decide the specialization fields for making professional choices.
Admission Eligibility Criteria
Intermediate (equivalent to 12 years of education) with at least 45% marks.

Candidates having ‘A’ levels are required to provide equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC), Islamabad. (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/)

Candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after successful completion of “Zero Semester”.

Minimum: 2-Years / 4 semesters
Maximum: 4-Years / 8 semesters
Maximum time duration includes semester freeze period.

Duration
It is two-year full time study program spread over four semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Assessment of Study Progress
The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term and final term exams. The mid-term and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.
Award of Degree
To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree in Arts, a student is required to earn prescribed 60 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.
