Introduction
M.Sc. Statistics program is designed to give students a solid foundation in statistics and enabling them to prepare for careers as statisticians in industry, business and academia. Statistics is one of the most important fields of study in the world. There is constant demand for trained statisticians is notably strong and increasing. Graduates will apply their knowledge of statistical methods to a variety of subject areas, such as life sciences, economics, engineering, physical sciences, psychology, marketing and education.
The program will enable the students to:

Analyze and critically interpret data, build statistical models of real situations and use of statistical software packages;

Foster an interest in theoretical and applied statistics and equip the students for work as a professional statistician;

Complement an already existing career or acquired degree with advanced statistical expertise.
Admission Eligibility Criteria
Candidates having Bachelor’s degree (14-year education) e.g. BA/ B.Sc. with Statistics as an elective subject from a recognized university/institution with a minimum 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4.

Duration
It is a two-year duration program spread over four semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration.

Assessment of Study Progress
The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term and final-term examinations.
Project
Students are required to complete a Project of 6 credit hours (distributed in last two semesters). The choice of the Project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and may be required to give a presentation.
Award of Degree
To become eligible for the award of M.Sc. Statistics degree, student is required to complete at least 66 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
