Introduction

The deficiency semester(s) for Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) program has been introduced to facilitate the candidates having 16-year Science/Engineering education background and in order to overcome deficiency in the required subjects/courses of computer science filed. Such candidates upon successfully qualifying their deficiency course(s) will become eligible for admission towards MSCS program.

Program Objectives

The Strategic objectives of Deficiency Semester for MS (CS) are:

1. To develop eLearning student with knowledge of concepts, theories, application and practices associated with the computer science field.
2. To prepare eLearning student with an innovative practices related to computer science application and enhance the programming skills.
3. To develop eLearning student with refinement of analytical, logical and critical thinking.
4. To prepare eLearning student with an ability to proper use of electronic media technologies for interacting with teachers appropriately in virtual environment.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Candidates having 16-year Science/Engineering education [BE, BS, M.Sc., and other relevant equivalent qualifications from a recognized university/institution] with at least Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 2.50 out of 4/ 1st division, wherein GPA system is not implemented, are eligible to apply.

Course Exemption

Course(s) exemption is available.

• Candidate is not required to apply separately for exemption of deficiency course(s).
• The concerned department evaluates and marks exemption of course(s) of the students, as per policy.

Duration

It is one-year duration program that comprises two semesters. Each semester has 18 weeks duration. However, the actual duration will vary in case of exemption(s) granted.

Assessment of Study Progress

The evaluation of students’ study progress for deficiency courses is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards, mid-term and final-term examinations. The mid-term and final-term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and usually count 80 to 85% of the total marks of a course.

Completion of Deficiency Semesters

To qualify Deficiency Semester Courses, students are required to complete program’s course work with minimum CGPA 2.00 out of 4.

• Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to apply for admission towards MSCS.
