National Conference held at VU

One-day national conference titled "Latest trends in detection and degradation of aflatoxins and its ingredients in the feed" was held at Virtual University of Pakistan, M.A Jinnah Campus Lahore on April 18, 2017.

The conference was organized by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Virtual University of Pakistan with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission. The objective of this conference was to explore the vistas and prospects of awareness among the students, producers, processors and consumers about the management of deadly aflatoxins, one of the most toxic groups of mycotoxins that are produced by Aspergillus species. They are found in contaminated feed and have been recognized in the milk of dairy cows feeding on aflatoxin B1 contaminated feeds.

Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan inaugurated the conference formally. Dr. Muhamad Tariq, the organizer of this event extended his vote of thanks to the chief guest Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Advisor, VU and other guests, participants and emphasized on the need for collaborations and advent of new techniques to detect aflatoxins and their degradation. He added that young scientists should come forward and explore the unchartered waters of this new field. Other guest speakers included Dr. Muhammad Athar, Production Manager, Hi-Tec Feed Mills, Dr. Rafique Asi from National Institute of Agriculture Research, Dr. Makhdoom Abdul Jabbar, Dr. Mohsin Javed, Dr. Sana Zahoor and Dr. Fahad Rafique.

All the participants received participation certificates and shields were awarded to the guests/resource persons.
