VU developed Technical Training Course on Power Planning and Analysis

Virtual University of Pakistan developed “Technical Training Course on Power Planning and Analysis” through distance learning for SAARC Energy Centre. SAARC Energy Centre (SEC) was created through Dhaka Declaration, in 2005, as the special purpose vehicle to realize the vision of SAARC leaders to establish an Energy Ring in South Asia.

This distance learning program will benefit all members of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. More energy analysts in South Asian countries will develop their skills in integrated energy planning and receive technical guidance for conducting energy studies, through this program. Moreover it will help participants to understand and analyse emerging issues and identify the potential role for various energy technologies.

An inaugural ceremony was organized at M. A. Jinnah Campus of Virtual University of Pakistan. On this occasion, Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Rector VU welcomed the participants. He further said that this course will be a major substantive element for economic prosperity of South Asia towards energy issues of the member states.

Engr. Salis Usman, Program Leader of SAARC Energy Center Islamabad, thanked and acknowledged Virtual University for development of curriculum designs and production of video lectures for all SAARC states.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Tahir Nadeem Malik, Dean Electrical Engineering Department UET Taxila, Engr. Dr. Suhail Aftab Qureshi, Dean Electrical Engineering Department UET Lahore, Engr. Hassan Jafar Zaidi, Managing Director, Power Planners International Pvt. Ltd, Engr. Tauseef ur Rehman, Assistant Manager, NTDC, Engr. Ahmad Usman Khan, System Studies Engineer, officials of SAARC Energy Centre and Virtual University of Pakistan.
