Closing Ceremony of the Workshop on " English as a Medium of Instruction" Organized by Virtual University of Pakistan in Collaboration with Learning Innovation Division, HEC 

Virtual University of Pakistan (VUP) in collaboration with Learning Innovation Division (LID) of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan organized a one week workshop entitled ‘English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI)’ under ‘Transforming English Language Skills (TELS) Training Program’ from February 6-10, 2017 at Virtual University, Lawrence Road Office. The purpose of the workshop was to deal with language issues faced by the teachers and the students of all domains teaching through the medium of English to minimize the barriers that hinder effective teaching- learning process. Dr Tayyaba Tamim, Ms Shabana Ahmed, Dr Qaisera Sheikh and Dr Summaira Sarfraz were the resource persons.

The final day concluded with a closing ceremony.  Dr Naveed A Malik (Rector, VUP) graced the occassion as the Chief Guest. Ms. Ayesha Perveen, (the organizer & Head, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities) gave a brief overview of the objectives, outcomes and the key topics covered in different sessions of the workshop. Ms Maimoona Khan (Lecturer, GCU) and Mr Fahad Rafique (Instructor, VUP) from the participants shared their views about the workshop and appreciated the efforts of the VUP. In the concluding speech, Dr Naveed A Malik highlighted the importance of English as a language and medium of instruction in Pakistani context. He emphasized that the teachers and parents should inculcate the culture of language learning amongst the younger generation. He also commended the efforts of the Department of English, VUP for conducting a successful workshop for teachers’ capacity building.

As a token of appreciation, a souvenir and a bouquet were presented to Dr Summaira Sarfraz, Associate Professor, FAST-National University by the Chief Guest. Certificates of participation were awarded to the participants and the certificates of appreciation were presented to the organizing committee members. A memento and a certificate of appreciation were presented to Ms Ayesha Perveen for being the  organizer of the workshop. Later, a bouquet was presented to the Chief Guest Dr Naveed A Malik by Ms Ayesha Perveen. The ceremony concluded with a group photo followed by tea and refreshments.
