Virtual University of Pakistan has been honored and selected to host the 33rd Annual Conference of Asian Association of Open Universities after acceptance of its Proposal by Executive Committee of AAOU. Other proposals received by AAOU were from China and India. This Conference is scheduled to be held in the Year 2019 in Pakistan. The decision of the Executive Committee, which is taken two years in advance, was taken during the just concluded 31st Conference hosted by Universitas Terbuka, Indonesia.
Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar Malik represented Virtual University of Pakistan in 31st Conference as a Panel Speaker and also presented the proposal for holding the 2019 Conference in Pakistan.
Holding this conference will be a landmark achievement to bring together open and distance learning academicians, policymakers, practitioners and scholars of Asia in a discussion of global trends in ODL.
AAOU was established in 1987 as a non-profit association with an objective to bring together universities from the Asian countries to improve the quality of education while promoting Distance Education at the same time. Every year, one member institution selected by the Executive Committee hosts the AAOU Conference in their country and these conferences provide a platform to update the members regarding issues, new ideas and developments that are taking place in the field of Distance Education.
