M.Sc. Economics

Introduction

M.Sc. Economics is designed for students who want to excel their career in the field of Economics. The program has been designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge of the subject and research which fully train them for developing their career. Besides study of different courses, the students are required to complete a project which would provide them a platform to apply their knowledge practically.

Program Objectives

The objectives of program are:

  • To provide the highest possible standards of education based on sound theoretical and applied knowledge of the subject.
  • To prepare students for advance studies in economics.
  • To train the students for teaching and research jobs in the market.
  • To enable students to analyze a range of national and international economic problems by applying acquired economic knowledge and research tools and propose desired solution.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Candidates having Bachelor’s degree (14-year education) e.g. BA/ BSc/ B Com or equivalent with at least 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4 are eligible to apply.

Note:

  • Candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after successful completion of “Zero  Semester”.
  • VU graduates holding 2-years degree are allowed only to continue in their respective BS (4-year) study programs.

Course Exemption

Course(s) exemption is not allowed.

Duration

It is a two-year duration program spread over four semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration.

Assessment of Study Progress

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term and final-term examinations.

Project

Students are required to complete a Project of 3-credit hours in the final semester of their M.Sc. Economics program. The choice of the final project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and may be required to give a presentation.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award of M.Sc. Economics degree, student is required to complete at least 66 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
