Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Introduction

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program is designed for people having one year B.Ed. after fourteen or sixteen years of education or three years B.S.Ed. after intermediate. They may be in-service teachers in any public or private school or college or yet have not joined the teaching profession. This degree will provide them an opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and qualification that may help them in performing the jobs in better way, upgrade their professional status and lead to further higher education degree programs.

Program Objectives

  1. Enhance the pedagogical knowledge and skills of teachers and non-teaching people having B.Ed./B.S.Ed. degree;
  2. Enable the learners to take leadership roles in educational institutions in specialized areas of education such as school administration, curriculum enrichment, guidance and counseling etc.;
  3. Polish and upgrade their learning skills enabling them to pursue advanced degrees in education.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

B.Ed./ B.S.Ed. (3-year) with at least 45% marks in annual system or CGPA 2.0 out of 4 from a recognized university/institution.

Note:

  • Zero Semester is not applicable for Master of Education (M.Ed.) Program.

Course Exemption

Course exemption is not allowed.

Duration

It is a 1-year full time study program spread over two semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Areas of Specialization

The student will have to qualify at least any three courses from an area of selected specialization. Followings are the areas of specialization:

  • Educational Leadership and Management
  • Educational Psychology
  • Sociology of Education
  • ICT in Education

Assessment of Study Progress

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Moderated Discussion Boards (GMDBs), mid-term and final-term exams. The mid and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award of 1-year Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.), the students enrolled in Fall 2021 semester are required to complete at least 37 credit hours with at least 2.00 CGPA of out of 4.
Whereas, for all previously enrolled batches, the students are required to complete at least 36 credit hours with minimum CGPA 2.00 out of 4.00.
