Ms. Asifa Ilyas is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) in the Department of Management Sciences. She has been a part of the academic faculty of different organizations, where she performed varying administrative tasks on top of her teaching responsibilities. Starting as a lecturer at Punjab College of Commerce in 2004, Ms. Ilyas served there for six years before joining VU in 2010. In 2010, she completed her MPhil degree from the University of Central Punjab, Lahore. Her quest to achieve academic excellence along with an unwavering dedication to play a role as an effective faculty member of a vibrant online university led her to achieve a new career milestone - she was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2015. With a career transition from conventional settings to virtual mode, she developed a research interest in exploring the effectiveness of online education and women empowerment in Pakistan. She conducted her MPhil research on the glass ceiling effect, where she explored the existence of barriers that women serving in leadership roles in public universities of Lahore faced on the way to their current positions. In 2016, Ms. Ilyas presented a conference paper in ELDEC 2016 shedding light on how online faculty members’ feedback can help improve the performance of online students. Her research work that involves studying the online students' persistence intentions has been published by the prestigious Association of Asian Open Universities Journal in 2020. More recently, she presented her conference paper at the 34th Annual Conference of the Association of Asian Open Universities held in Sri Lanka in 2021.
