VU Virtual University of Pakistan
Department of English

Introduction

The Department of English strives to cultivate a deep understanding of English and its many facets. Our mission is to foster a learning environment that encourages the exploration of language, literature, and linguistics through our degree and diploma programs.

We set up high standards of academic excellence by providing innovative techniques of language learning, including Interactive Communication Technology (ICT) tools to enhance teaching methods and research approaches.

Currently we are offering a BS Applied Linguistics program and post-graduate diplomas in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics. Moreover, our BS English Literature program is in the recording process.

Our BS Applied Linguistics program, launched in 2019, is significantly popular, especially among the female students. Currently, we have 10,767 enrolments in our BS Applied Linguistics program out of which 9,295 are females.

We provide a variety of advanced level courses because we believe, as Einstein did, that education is the process of teaching the mind to think, and not just memorization of facts. As linguistics becomes more and more important in modern technology, our language courses are updated regularly to keep up with the changing trends. The variety of course options aims to increase knowledge of global linguistic traditions and trends while opening new avenues for thought.

The Department aims to foster students' learning and research skills, keeping in line with the recent developments in linguistics and English language teaching. Our faculty members, stationed at different cities across Pakistan, are determined to encourage, guide and support students at every step of their educational journey.

Incharge’s Message

I heartily welcome you all to the Department of English, a place where you can probe into language and its multiple aspects. Here, you will learn how language collaborates with other areas of knowledge like computer science, technology, psychology, sociology, etc. and how new corridors of knowledge are established like computational linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and so on. In Applied Linguistics, each word is a unique and dynamic entity that makes you travel from the world of arbitrariness to a world of discernment and rationalism.

We, at the Department of English, are not just a group of academicians but a supportive family that acknowledges and appreciates your distinctive efforts. Our Department is composed of devoted teachers, well versed scholars, and seasoned researchers with diverse specializations covering the whole spectrum of linguistics and language studies. Our faculty members are readily available to help and mentor students around the clock. Keeping today’s demands in view, our Department does not only focus on imparting knowledge but also developing skills and insights that ultimately lead to exploration of the constantly flourishing field of linguistics.

Finally, yet importantly, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to the newly admitted students for securing admission in a University that never sleeps and a Department that best shapes your academic self. Simultaneously, I wish good luck to the already enrolled students and alumni that are indeed an integral part of our Department. I look forward to witnessing your academic as well as career growth and the positive impact you'll undoubtedly make.
