Workshop on Storytelling at Workplace

The Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Mass Communication organized a one-day workshop on “Storytelling at Workplace” and the resource person was Prof. Dr. Najma Najam (Pro-VC Nur International University). The workshop focused on the traditional custom of old methodology of storytelling and how effectively it can be used as a technique in multiple settings. In the clinical settings it has been traditionally used for taking case histories and Psychologists used this to develop techniques for treatment of the people for the betterment of the society. It has been effectively used in acculturation of the members of community and passing on traditions from the senior members to junior ones. Dr. Najma highlighted the origin of stories with its main component and types. She explained briefly as to how stories are reflected in brain activity and what processes are involved. She explained the story types along with its examples and described the relevance of stories with reference to moral impacts and cultural lessons to be derived after analysis of each story’s values. The faculty participated in the workshop enthusiastically and found it very fruitful; it was a new way of looking at stories.
