Introduction

Introduction
The Bachelor of Science (Lateral) program in Psychology is designed to build on students’ prior learning and provide them with a strong foundation in psychological principles, research, and applied practice. The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling students to understand human behavior, mental processes, and their applications in diverse settings. It prepares students to address psychological issues at individual, community, and organizational levels, with a focus on promoting mental health, well-being, and evidence-based interventions.

Objectives
The goals of the BS Psychology (Lateral) program are to:

  1. Provide a comprehensive understanding of major concepts, theories, and approaches in psychology.
  2. Equip students with skills in psychological assessment, research methods, and data interpretation.
  3. Foster critical thinking and ethical awareness in addressing psychological and social issues.
  4. Prepare students for professional roles in mental health, education, community development, and organizational settings.
  5. Enable graduates to pursue advanced studies and specialization in psychology and related disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

 

Applicants with a 2-year Associate Degree in Psychology (from an HEC-recognized institution) will be able to join the 5th semester of a BS program. Those with an Associate Degree in a different discipline or a conventional BA/BSc degree (annual system) must complete a bridging semester/deficiency semester to address academic deficiencies.

The minimum admission eligibility is a 2.00/4.00 CGPA for Associate Degree holders (semester system) or 45% marks for BA/BSc or equivalent (annual system). The University may set higher standards for specific programs.

Assessment Criteria

he students study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), mid-term and final-term examinations.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award BS Lateral (Psychology) degree, the students are required to complete prescribed 63 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.

Project / Internship / Practicals

 Rules for Capstone Project:

  1. The Capstone Project shall be of 03-Credit Hours and will be offered in 8th semester.  It will be a graded course.

Students will submit a detailed write-up of the research project and will give a viva presentation. Only those students will be called for viva presentation, who will pass the written work.

2.    In order to enroll Capstone Project, students must have:

                                      I.        Achieved a CGPA of 2 or higher

                                    II.        Earned 48 or more credit hours.

                                   III.        Passed STA630-Research Methods

                                             and PSY516 Statistics in  Psychology

  1. If a student fails to qualify of the Final Year Project, the “F” grade will be awarded to the student in the Final Year Project. 

 

Rules for Internship

1.    In Internship Report (PSYI619: Internship Report), students are required to complete 6-8 weeks internship in any in any Government Hospital, Registered Private Clinic, Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Organization with HR department, Special Education Institutes with psychologically challenged child cases and school settings. Students shall get Internship Completion Certificate issued by concerned organization.

2.    Students will submit a detailed internship report and will give a viva presentation.

3.    In order to enroll in the Internship course, the student must have earned 24 or more credit hours.

In order to enroll Internship course, students must have pass PSY404 Abnormal Psychology.
