Delegation from the University of South Africa (UNISA) Visits the Virtual University of Pakistan!

A high-level delegation from the University of South Africa (UNISA) visited the Virtual University of Pakistan at its MA Jinnah Office in Lahore. The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Javed, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, along with senior management and faculty members.

The distinguished guests from UNISA included Prof. MD Magano, Executive Director of Tuition Support and Facilitation of Learning; Prof. Itumeleng Setlhodi, Director of Academic Quality Assurance; Dr. Mpho Rakwena Monareng, Director of Language Services; Dr. Phumza Makgato-Khunou, Head of the Centre for Professional Development and Acting Director of Instructional Support Services; Mr. Aaron Mabasa, Language Practitioner; and Mr. Lekau Rachidi, Manager of the Student Retention Unit.

During the visit, UNISA’s senior management provided an insightful overview of the institution, which has been serving South African students for over 150 years, offering education in 12 languages through its distance, open and e-learning programs.

Prof. Dr. Mohsin Javed shared details of the Virtual University of Pakistan's achievements over the past 22 years. He highlighted that more than 120,000 plus students have graduated from the University, many of whom are now working in renowned companies across the globe. He also emphasized the University’s efforts in providing quality education through its innovative use of technology.

A key discussion during the visit revolved around a potential collaboration between the two institutions. This collaboration aims to benefit both universities by expanding their educational services and resources.

The delegation also toured the TV department of Virtual University to observe how lectures are recorded and broadcasted through the university’s four satellite TV channels, reaching students nationwide. They were further introduced to the University’s data centers and learned about the technological infrastructure supporting the institution. The tour concluded with a visit to the mobile bio-lab, which travels across cities to serve students in remote areas.

The UNISA delegation expressed their admiration for the Virtual University’s advanced offerings, recognizing its innovative approaches to education and its potential for future collaboration.
