BS (ZOOLOGY)

Introduction

BS Zoology has been designed to meet the rapidly changing world. This subject has significant role in human resource development, food security, environmental conservation, sustainable development and ultimately in alleviation of poverty. The program is solidly grounded in the basic sciences (general biology, chemistry and math) needed to understand the latest research in the biology of animals. It also allows a wide range of choice in upper level animal biology courses permitting students to tailor their degrees to their particular interests within zoology. Students will just have to attend the university lab once in a year for a period of three weeks only, while rest of the time they can study online at their own houses.

Program Objectives

  • To meet the rapidly developing techniques and information regarding Zoology.
  • To trained the students in terms of latest laboratory techniques used in scientific research.
  • To enable students for designing experimental projects by keeping in mind the changes in their surrounding and critically analyze the results.
  • To equip students with ethical and moral values related to research in various branches of Zoology.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Intermediate with Pre-medical or equivalent qualification with at least 45% marks.

Note

  • Candidates having ‘A’ level or Deeni Asnad or foreign qualification are required to provide equivalence certificate from IBCC or HEC, Islamabad as applicable.
  • Limited seats on merit basis within Pakistan only.
  • Zero  Semester” is not applicable.

BS Entry Route:

Applicants having B.Sc./Associate Degree in Science (14-Year of education) from an HEC recognized university / institute with at-least 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out 4.0 are eligible for course exemption (as determined by the Equivalence Committee of VU). However, applicants shall meet admission entry requirements based on their 12 years of education as stated above.

Merit Calculation Formula


Note: The applicants applying for admission towards aforesaid programs through BS entry route/Course Exemption will also compete merit. However, their merit will be calculated using formula listed in table number 2 under category: For Applicants having completed Intermediate Certificate.

Course exemption is allowed.

Duration

It is four-year full time study program spread over eight semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Assessment of Study program & Progress

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded discussion board (GDBs), course practical’s (where in applicable), mid-term and final term examinations as per VUP guidelines.

Course(S) Practicals

Participation in practical classes of a course(s) will be compulsory for a student to qualify respective course(s). Each student will participate in practical classes at the VU designated lab cities which were allocated at the time of admission. Note: The University admits students of Biological sciences programs on merit as per the available seats against each lab city during the admission session. Once a student is admitted against a particular lab preference then he/she will not be allowed to change his/her lab city after admission.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award of BS in Zoology degree, a student is required to complete at least 135 credit hours course work including practical and project with minimum CGPA of 2.00.
