Introduction/Description

The Bachelor of Science program in Public Administration is designed to meet specific needs of public sector. There are different goals of this program which include:

  1. Providing a liberal arts education through the University's Core Curriculum;
  2. Assuring an understanding and appreciation of the political, social, and economic aspects of public services;
  3. Preparing students for entry and middle-level professional positions in public sector;

Program Objectives

  • To develop understanding with different aspects of Public Administration
  • To become familiar with operational aspects of Public Administration and public policy specifically in the context of Pakistan
  • To develop managerial, planning, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • To enable students to articulate and apply a public service perspective.
  • To Sharpen the skills to analyze, synthesize and evaluate the gaps in public service delivery for bringing reforms in governance.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Intermediate (12 years of education)/ A- Level or equivalent qualification with at-least 45% marks

Note

  • Candidates having ‘A’ level or Deeni Asnad or foreign qualification are required to provide equivalence certificate from IBCC or HEC, Islamabad as applicable.
  • Candidates having less than 45% marks in Intermediate or equivalent qualification will be eligible for admission after the successful completion of “Zero  Semester”.

BS Entry Route:

Applicants having B.A./B.Sc./Associate Degree (14 years of education) from an HEC recognized university / institute with at-least 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out 4.0 are eligible for course exemption (as determined by the Equivalence Committee of VU). However, applicants shall meet admission entry requirements based on their 12 years of education as stated above.

Duration

It is four-year full time study program spread over eight semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Assessment of Study Progress

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, graded moderated discussion boards (GMDBS), mid-term and final-term exams. The mid and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and usually count 80 to 85% of the total marks of a course.

Project/Internship

Students are required to complete a Project/ Internship Report in the final semester of their BS in Public Administration program. The choice of the final project is at student’s discretion. However, consultation with student's advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and to give a presentation.
Student taking Internship course are required to complete 6 to 8 weeks internship in the organization and shall get internship letter from the concerned organization. The students who are already in service shall be exempted from Internship but required to submit the Project.

Award of Degree

To be eligible for the award of BS degree, the students are required to complete prescribed course work of 134 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
