The Bachelor of Science (BS) and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary program prepares a student to meet the demanding challenges of the modern workplace. The BS and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary degree comprises more than 130 credits of work. During final year, student will be required to spend a good deal of time in completing a project/internship. The project will usually be done in collaboration with industry, under the guidance of a professional nominated by the University. Whereas student taking Internship course are required to complete 6 to 8 weeks internship in the organization and shall get internship letter from the concerned organization. The students who are already in service shall be exempted from Internship but required to submit the Project. However, student of B.Ed (Hons) Elementary is required to submit Research Project (Professional). The curriculum for various majors is based on the recommendations of the National Curriculum Revision Committees approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad. However, the Academic Council of the University may update the curricula from time to time. Please note that all courses detailed in the BS and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary programs below may not be offered in a given academic session. The specific courses being offered will be notified in the semester schedule on the University Learning Management System web site.

Duration:
It is four-year full time study program spread over eight semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc. Eligibility Requirements: Applicants for admission to all Bachelor of Science (BS) Programs and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary program must have passed with at least 45% marks, Intermediate (Part I and II, or equivalent examination), or I.Com or ICS or DAE or ‘A’ level examinations. The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) ‘O’ levels and School Certificate (SC) examinations are considered equivalent to Matriculation, and the GCE ‘A’ levels is considered equivalent to the Intermediate examination. For the GCSE (‘O’) and SC examinations, grades in 6 subjects are considered. ‘A’ level candidates must have passed 3 subjects and required to provide equivalence from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC), Islamabad

 

Note: The B.Ed. (Hons) Elementary Program is available for applicants residing within Pakistan only and is not available for overseas students. If any student wishes to move overseas after gaining admission, he/she will be required to withdraw from the program.

Admission application forms are same for 2-year and 4-year bachelor degree programs.

However, candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after successful completion of “Zero Semester”. Zero Semester is not applicable for admission towards B. Ed (Hons) Elementary program.

Assessment of Study Progress:

The students’ study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Moderated Discussion Boards (GMDBs), mid-term and final term exams including teaching practices etc. for B.Ed (Hons) Elementary. The mid-term and final term exams are conducted at VU’s designated centers and usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course. Award of Degree: To be eligible for the award of four-year BS degree, the students are required to complete at least 132 credit hours {at least 135-Credit hours are required for B.Ed (Hons) Elementary} with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 out of 4.00. The scheme of studies for BS and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary program is outlined as under. The courses may be revised from time to time as a result of continuous review to bring them at par with courses being taught at top-class foreign universities. While reviewing the courses needs of local industry and job market are also given full consideration. SEMESTER WISE BREAKUP OF B.Ed (Hons) Elementary PROGRAM B.Ed (Hons) Elementary

Elementary education is the first phase of education usually preceded by nursery or primary school education and followed by middle and secondary school education.
In Elementary education, Children are usually engaged in classes with one teacher who becomes responsible for their education and well-being for an entire academic year. The continuity with a single teacher and the opportunity to build a close relationship within the class is a distinguishing characteristic of the Elementary educational system. The mentor guides students with his/her abilities, competency and knowledge and becomes an ideal role model for the students. The basic objective of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Elementary) program is to equip students with basic teaching tools and in-depth knowledge about tomorrow’s educational challenges. Virtual University of Pakistan aims at developing dynamic and skilled elementary school teachers fluent in the use of the latest technologies and well-versed with the latest advancements in the techniques, knowledge and methods of teaching.
Research Project (Professional):

Students are required to complete a Project of 3-credit hours in the final semester of their B.Ed. (Hons) Elementary program. The choice of the final project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and may be required to give a presentation.

Note:  Course exemption/ transfer of credits are not allowed for this program.

The Departments of Computer Science & Information Technology of Virtual University of Pakistan has proposed to offer 4-year BS in Software Engineering program to fulfill the needs of rapidly growing market of software development in the country. Bachelor of Business & Information Technology (BBIT)

Bachelor of Business & Information Technology (BBIT) is a 4- year 8 semester program. Students are offered courses in Business and Information Technology which blend into a coherent and professional degree program. The Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) is designed to provide students with expertise in the development and use of computer systems for solving business problems and making managerial decisions.

Project Students are required to complete a Project of 6-credit hours in the 7th & 8th semester of their BBIT program. The choice of the final project is at the student’s discretion. BS (Accounting and Finance)

The bachelors degree program in accounting and finance prepares students for entry-level positions in accounting and financial management. BS (Commerce)

BS (Commerce) for B.Com degree holders

Candidates holding 2-year B.Com degree from a recognized University / institute with at least 45% marks are eligible for admission to BS in Commerce (in accordance to HEC, Islamabad, 4-year BS in Commerce is equivalent to existing M.Com) with followings conditions and required to qualify at least 72 credit hours with minimum 4-semester to achieve CGPA 2.0 out of 4

 

 

1.  First Four semester courses (60 credit hours) of the VU BS in Commerce will be considered as exempted and such students have to qualify remaining 72 credit hours with no further course exemption claim.

2. Student will not be allowed to change his/her study program.

3. In case student withdrawn its admission and continue any other VU program its course exemption will be marked cancelled.

Award of Degree: To be eligible for the award of degree of 4-year BS in Commerce candidates are required to complete course work program by attending minimum four semesters, at least 72 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 out of 4

 

Scheme of study: The courses may be revised from time to time as a result of continuous review conducted every term to bring them at par with courses being taught at top-class foreign universities. While reviewing the courses, needs of local industry and job market are also given full consideration.

The Mass Communication Program strives to provide students with a creative, diverse, and challenging academic environment that encourages risk-taking and promotes an examination of human values, cultural differences, and social questions and to prepare students for areas in the print and telecommunications media sectors.

BS (Psychology)

Psychology is the science of behavior and the mind. In the B.S. program, the study of psychology provides an understanding of basic processes of sensation, perception, learning, cognition, development, and personality along with principles of social psychology, clinical psychology, and behavioral neuroscience. Knowledge of psychological principles and of scientific methods for evaluating theories and research in the social sciences is essential in our rapidly changing society.

The basic goal of the B.S. program is to integrate the scientific foundation of psychology with a strong humanities background along with basic science to better prepare students for advanced training in psychology, medicine, cognitive science, neuroscience, and other related disciplines. The B.S. degree program is explicitly aimed at helping to prepare students for advanced graduate study in the sciences and science-based professions.
