The Department of Economics at the Virtual University of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan Economic Forum, hosted a one-day webinar titled "Smog and Sustainability: Economic Challenges, Policy Solutions, and Climate Action for Pakistan" on December 26, 2024.
The webinar addressed the causes and economic impacts of smog, emphasizing sustainable policies to combat this crisis. Key speakers included Dr. Muhammad Rafiq – Climate Finance Expert, GoP; Dr. Faisal Ali – Research Fellow, PIDE; Mr. Ali Kemal – Chief of SDGs, Ministry of Planning.
The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Faisal Shah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
The insightful discussions highlighted the economic challenges posed by smog, the necessity for immediate climate action, and the development of sustainable policy frameworks to address these issues effectively.
The webinar concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Samina Saghir, In-charge of the Department of Economics, who commended the participants and organizers for their efforts.
